Dance has been on my mind for a very long time but I never really knew when to start classes again. In primary school I did modern dancing for a few years but my teacher made me feel like it was a hassle.
In high school I started getting more and more stuff on my plate and never really had a ‘go to’ place to release all my stress and I started to realise how much I actually missed dancing. Ever since I started dance classes with Odille I immediately fell in love with it again and ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.
I do contemporary dance classes and the movements that she teaches are so simple and easy but does a lot to your body and muscles. Dancing makes me feel more confident in myself and my body.
I always look forward to dance classes and I wish I could dance more and more everyday if I could.

My life has changed with the dancing.
With 2 young kids and type 2 diabetes its hard to keep fit and its even harder to keep my blood sugar levels stable.
I joined the dance class initially hoping to shed a few kilograms but it turned out to have greater benefits than I could have hoped for. The ballet class is hard and has intense core fitness.
I also gave birth to my 2 boys naturally and it lead to stress incontinence. With the core fitness the class provides my stress incontinence got less and all but dissipated in 2 months.
I used to be so tired all the time with the type 2 diabetes and this is no longer the fact i have more stable blood sugar readings and my stamina is up by a 100%. I don't feel so drained early in the afternoon and my blood sugar does not drop to 3.5 any more.
I have not lost any of the kilograms I had hoped for but could certainly not care any less.
My body feels strong and I want to achieve more in class. I have discovered muscles that I can feel moving in my legs and I walk up straighter.
So bring on the ab marathons! Odille is so encouraging and patient and expects you to do more with your body and its cool to watch her body do incredible things even though you know you wont ever be able to do that, it is most incredible that my body wants to do the same.
Every class pushes your own ability and it takes a day to just recover from the class.
Dance isn't just about the physical body, it's about how the body reacts to an impulse, an impulse inside waiting to be freed.
When we dance we give each individual the opportunity to express their own impulses in the way they best can. We give the movement and they take it and give it their own expression.
Different people come for different reasons and we are here to help meet each reason.
